Monero at www.bitnodes.net

Update 7/4/2015: Node is up and running! :-) Node Up

Update 7/2/2015: This project still has life in it. I guess the bitnodes guy is still working on it. Close, but not quite there yet. This guy is persistent, --along with Fluffypony's help. :-)This guy is persistent

Update 5/27/2015: The node is up and syncing!

I have contacted support at bitnodes and have asked them to support Monero. Is this a good/bad idea? They emailed me back saying they are going to add it as one of the cryptocurrency options on their site. I gave them these links: Official Website and for the official Logos, Media

I have initially bought five shares at $1 USD/share. Takes 50 shares to set up the node for 365 days.

How to Crowd Fund the Node

They will set up the node when the node is fully paid for (50 shares). Hopefully they can set up the node with the latest and greatest blockchain database, etc.

Ok so now that it's funded, how do we get details on its operation?

I sent them an email just now asking about the status. Please do not send any more funds until I can determine or somebody can determine if the initial node is functional. Its possible he may have to do some preliminary research to get the node up and running. And he may have to compile some code to use the new data base.

Received a reply:

Hello Patrick,

we are having some issues with Monero daemon setup.

Sorry on delay, we are looking for solution.

-- Best Regards BitNodes

I will make them aware of this thread in case they have any questions.

Update: Looks like they are in #monero trying to figure it out.

I checked your link out and it says No more shares, does that mean we've hit our goal of 50 shares and have the node?

Yes, I bought the balance to see how the node performs - they've opened it up for a second one

I think it's a great idea. It's not much of a secret, but I have been halfway starting to set up a website to offer monero nodes to be set up. Life is very very effective at getting in the way at the moment, so not really coming near finishing that. The thought was it should be a community service, and as such people would only pay for the vps/hosting. The site wouldn't have any revenue. Alas, it is not on the top of my to do list at the moment.

50$ a year is not a lot for a whole node. Can't get much VPS in town for that.
