Purchase MONERO.HOW, keep it running, and open source it.

I propose the community come together to purchase the Monero.how domain name, website, and content and appoint a custodian(s) to manage the website and content.

knacc is auctioning off monero.how. The current bid is $2150.00 at https://flippa.com/9336741-monero-how with 13 days left.

This has been a longstanding resource for Monero, the Monero community, and newbies to learn about and how to use Monero. Many bad things could happen if a random person purchases it. It could be shutdown, have old content that causes issues, be used to advertise a scam, or even to undermine Monero.

I propose funding of 250 XMR to cover Milestone 1 (extra funds to be returned to general fund), 10 XMR for Milestone 2, 10 XMR for Milestone 3, and 30 XMR for Milestone 4. I would bid and complete the auction in fiat. Any extra funds would be returned to the Monero General Fund.

Milestone 1) Purchase Monero.how via auction and move the domain and content to a new hosting provider.

Milestone 2) Provide hosting and content updates for a year.

Milestone 3) Open source the website via Github.

Milestone 4) Integrate 20 pages of content from monero.how to getmonero.org via github.

Thank you so much for taking the initiative on this!

I recommend lowering milestone 1, as I doubt we will need to bid that high, and you risk the proposal not getting funded at all.

100 XMR (20K) should be plenty, as it's unlikely to get bid higher than that imo.

Since this is all happening in the public eye, we need an unreasonably large budget so everyone knows it's futile to outbid us. Any extra funds go back to the FFS.

Ideally milestone 1 would be thousands of XMR...

Thoughts?

The problem on suggesting this amount is that it will discourage people of donating. There are many FFS that had a lot of trouble getting ~230 XMR funding (like MRL), so I think it's unfortunately unrealistic.

Wouldn't a known milestone 1 provide the the owner the opportunity to use someone to bid up the price?

Your numbers are unfair to the community and donators, way to high. Looks like personal enrichment and scammy to me.

My proposal is:

  • 5000$ max for the project. Rest back to the donators.

  • 4 XMR for someone migrating the site to a Github-compatible CRM

  • 4 XMR for infrastructure for 3 years (based on: $84 Github acc + $60 LFS support at GitHub + $20 provider for domain every year)

Additional considerations

  • there should be only one offer by the community

  • domain ownership should be transferred to the core team

you will drive the price sky-high with this + provide full info how high the sky is

I'm buying websites off Flippa for ~ 5 years... interested in Monero project and the website. I already gave a private offer (there is possibility to put up BIN price on Flippa at anytime) but the owner wants to let the auction off to get the highest bid

well timed with the current bull run :)

AND you will also create a precedent for skilled SEOs/marketers who WILL rank their sites on first page on Google and then pretty much "extort" the community off crazy valuation
