Help with Monero lightning development

I think Monero is a great project. Usability is getting better all the time. Since monero transactions are quite large, it could benefit considerably from a lightning network implementation, and I think it should be prioritized. I'm a novice/intermediate coder in Python/C++/C, and I'd be interested in working on that (and getting paid some), but obviously it's a huge task. Any ideas on what could be some small stepping stones for the project ? Scope: I was thinking along the lines of summer work for a few XMR.

Try contacting Tari, Fluffypony's new company. They have a Lightning Network router implementation on their roadmap. They prefer programming in Rust, btw.

Lightning is not the first priority for the Monero developers. The scaling solution that's currently being audited and tested is Bulletproofs, which will make transactions significantly smaller.

Python is the best language to use. Try to read more thoughtful blogs, it will help you. Like Github.
